I do understand that there are many poetic form that are widely used by poets. However, as one could find many famous poems that does not exactly follow the format of a proper poetic form; it has made me wonder on how strict and how loosely can one use these forms. That's it for now,... I'll add something later on.

I am not sure about how strict or loosely one can use these forms, but nobody says you have to write in these particular poetic forms, but it can sometimes provide a focus to one's poem that might not otherwise exist. And it provides an additional challenege for a poet to attempt to master in his or her writing. Just as composers still create music with certain formal restrictions and some who dont, a poet should be allowed to pick and choose what formal elements, if any, may go into his poetry.

I don't know if this answered your question or just me randomly babbling on.
